"The Phantom," Don't mess with perfection!
I was truly impressed with the music when watching "The Phantom of the Opera" again - it never fails to captivate me. Kaitlyn Davis, the understudy for Christine Daae's role, was outstanding. The quality of the actors, however, left me quite dissatisfied. The changes made for the newest Broadway tour raised some concerns for me. The alterations in special effects did not sit well with me; I preferred it the way it was before. The chandelier plunging over the audience onto the stage, the eerie journey to the phantom's dungeon, Raoul's dramatic dive and vanishing into the water - those were the moments that made the experience unforgettable. My past visits to this musical in Chicago were all exceptional, with fantastic performances, singing, and effects. Sharing my love for musicals with my son didn't go as planned; he didn't seem as impressed as I had hoped. It was disheartening to see him not appreciate the show as much as I did the first time. Nevertheless, "The Phantom of the Opera" remains a remarkable production. Thank you, Andrew Lloyd Webber! Perhaps I'll stick to Chicago's theaters in the future and avoid revivals that tamper with what was already perfect.
